COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio’s neighboring states have different policies regarding students leaving school mid-day for religious instruction off campus. This practice, known as “released time,” gained legal precedent in the 1952 Supreme Court decision of Zorach v. Clauson, which found it constitutional for New York students to engage in such activities. Since then, states have enacted laws varying in their allowance or requirement of released time for students.
