DEFIANCE, Ohio-The Ohio State Highway Patrol Defiance Post is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred in Defiance County on Sunday morning. The crash, involving a 1996 Chevrolet Corvette driven by 19-year-old Elliot Nolan with passenger 19-year-old Christopher Welch, occurred on Ridenour Road south of Scott Road around 12:15 a.m. Nolan lost control of the vehicle at high speeds, striking several trees and overturning.
Welch was ejected from the vehicle and both were transported to regional hospitals with serious injuries, with Nolan succumbing to his injuries later that evening. Seat belts were not used, and alcohol is suspected to be a factor. The investigation involves assistance from multiple agencies, including the Farmer Township Fire Department, Hicksville Emergency Medical Services, Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, and John’s Towing.
