COLUMBUS, Ohio-The NFHS Baseball Rules Committee approved revisions, including allowing the use of one-way communication devices between baseball coaches and catchers to call pitches in high school baseball for the 2024 spring season. This change aims to integrate technology responsibly into the game while maintaining balance and fairness.
The new rule prohibits coaches from communicating with other players during defense or batting, requiring them to be in the dugout when using the device. Additionally, a new rule designates wristbands with defensive shifts or game directions as non-electronic equipment. Umpires will no longer have jurisdiction over spectators’ behavior when deciding to forfeit a contest, focusing solely on player and team infractions. These revisions seek to enhance game management and maintain a level playing field in education-based athletics.
