COLUMBUS, Ohio-Two young men, Jakquan Kimbro and Lonnie Johnston, were fatally shot during a chaotic incident at Krumm Park in Columbus. They were attending a vigil for Da’Mya Cummerlander, who had been killed earlier. The shooting occurred late in the evening on June 3, prompting multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire.
Medics pronounced both victims dead shortly after the shooting. After an investigation, Tyrez Turner, 18, and Ladavia Fortner, 31, were arrested on murder charges. Police suggested the suspects may have returned fire after being fired upon themselves. The incident stirred significant community concern and led to a plea for video evidence to aid the investigation.
