Prosecutors Plan to Try Teens Charged with Alexa Stakely’s Murder as Adults

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Prosecutors plan to try two 16-year-olds as adults for the murder of Alexa Stakely, who was killed during an attempted carjacking in Canal Winchester. On July 11, Stakely was struck and killed by her own car while trying to stop the theft as she picked up her child. The vehicle, which had her sleeping son inside, was abandoned nearby. The two teens, along with 19-year-old Gerald Dowling Jr., were arrested on July 12. The teens have confessed to their involvement, while Dowling Jr., who was not present at Thursday’s court hearing, faces a $10 million bond. The teens, who waived their court appearance, will remain in juvenile detention until their next hearing on July 29.
