Retired Teachers Raise Concerns Over the Financial Choices Made by the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio-After 31 years in education, Susan Santoro, president of the Lucas County Retired Teachers Association, expresses disappointment with the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) of Ohio. Despite promises of cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) upon retirement, these adjustments have been irregular.

While retirees struggle financially, STRS management receives bonuses, leading to frustration among members. To address these issues, retired teachers are advocating for reform and have successfully elected reform-minded representatives to the STRS pension board. This concern arises amidst a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Dave Yost against two STRS pension board members.
