CLEVELAND, Ohio-Shaker Heights Schools is implementing a new “Away for the Day” cellphone policy for the 2024-2025 school year to enhance social and academic engagement. Elementary students must turn off and store their cellphones in their backpacks, while students in Grades 6-12 will use Yondr pouches to keep their devices secured until the end of the day. Cellphone use during extracurricular activities will be determined by coaches or advisors. Exceptions to the policy may be made by school administration, and families can contact the school office for emergencies, as classrooms will have a cellphone available for urgent needs.
