WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio-A Lakota West student was struck by a vehicle while crossing West Chester Road on her way to school Friday morning. The incident occurred around 6:48 a.m., and although the student was conscious, she was taken to the hospital. She also attends Butler Tech, a nearby trade school. No crossing guards were present at the time of the accident, and the driver remained at the scene. The incident has reignited concerns about student safety in the area, especially for Trisha Parnell, whose daughter was also hit in the same crosswalk in 2018, suffering severe injuries. Parnell has been advocating for increased safety measures, including the presence of resource officers during school hours. Following a similar tragedy at Lakota East High School in May 2024, where a student was killed in a crosswalk, Parnell has led efforts to promote “Aspen’s Law,” which aims for stricter penalties for violations in school zones. The community is rallying for change to enhance safety for students.
