Why were 6 Teenagers Released After Reportedly Taking Police on a High-Speed Chase in a Stolen Car?

GARFIELD HEIGHT, Ohio-On August 11, Garfield Heights Police released body-worn camera footage related to the arrest of six teenagers, aged 13 to 15, who were involved in a high-speed pursuit of a stolen Hyundai. The chase, which lasted about six minutes, reached speeds of 75 mph before ending when the car’s tire blew. The teens fled and hid in nearby yards and on garages. One of them claimed to have concealed two guns. The Prosecutor’s Office criticized the lapse and emphasized the need for better coordination. Local resident Ronnie Haney expressed concerns about the danger posed by the chase and the need for neighborhood improvements to prevent such incidents. The police suspect the teens were connected to several recent car thefts and attempts.
