School Board Used Good Judgment in Taking a Pass on Release for Bible Classes

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-The School Board’s decision not to approve release time for students to attend religious classes elsewhere was considered appropriate and reflective of good judgment. The concern lies in the implication that the school would be endorsing or subsidizing religious instruction by granting such release time.

The limited time available during school hours is seen as valuable for academic instruction, and parents are encouraged to explore alternatives such as weekends or after-school hours for religious activities. Drawing a parallel, the argument is made that if release time were granted for religious purposes, it could set a precedent for other non-academic activities, raising questions about where to draw the line. Ultimately, the suggestion is that parents should find other times outside of school hours for religious instruction, as was the practice of the speaker’s parents.
