Knox County School Finds Success in Tackling Chronic Absenteeism

CENTERBURG, Ohio-Centerburg Local Schools participated in the Each Child On Track program voluntarily during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years, aimed at supporting at-risk students. The district received a $50,000 grant to aid in implementing the program, focusing initially on addressing chronic absenteeism, defined as 50 or more hours of excused or unexcused absences. Approximately 33% of high school students were chronically absent at the start of the 2023-24 school year. The program involves Ohio’s State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP), utilizing State Support Teams (SST) to assist in embedding Each Child On Track into district improvement efforts.
