April 9th, 2024-MEDINA, Ohio-Following the rejection of Issue 7 on March 19, the Medina Board of Education and administrators are strategizing their next steps. This proposed 7.5-mill continuous operating levy failed with 52.72% of voters against it. Previously, in November, voters rejected a combined bond issue and operating levy. Superintendent Aaron Sable expressed urgency and determination in addressing the levy’s failure.
Board President Jeanne Pritchard mentioned discussions with district officials to determine the next course of action, including the possibility of putting the levy on the November ballot. The district has already made significant cuts totaling $9.9 million due to the previous levy’s failure. Deeper cost reductions may be necessary. Pritchard acknowledged the efforts of Kids First Medina in educating the community about the levy and expressed gratitude for their work.
