Pittsburgh Public Schools Outlines Framework to Create List of School Closures

April 12th, 2024-The Pittsburgh Public Schools’ plan to address facility issues doesn’t propose specific closures but outlines a process for community involvement, assessing needs, and establishing a timeline for potential closures. One recommendation is to separate elementary, middle, and high schools to provide dedicated spaces for each age group.

This change could affect combined middle and high schools, including popular magnet schools. The district is assessing building conditions and educational adequacy, with plans to involve the public in decision-making through various engagement methods. Consultants will be hired to aid in the process, with recommendations expected by August and final decisions by December, impacting timelines for magnet school placements.
