From Sackbuts to Recorders: Renaissance Music Strikes a Chord with Oakmont Students

Oakmont Elementary School students were transported back in time as they watched in awe while instrumentalist Priscilla Herreid unveiled a fascinating collection of instruments from the 1500s and 1600s. With the enchanting sounds of Renaissance-era bagpipes and recorders filling the air, she and her band introduced the students to wind instruments, the shawms and krumhorns—the “grandfathers” of modern oboes and crumhorns.
