State program would ensure students receive vision assistance to help with reading

A new program aimed at helping students read could be coming to Ohio as part of Gov. Mike Dewine’s proposed budget for 2026-2027.

The program, OhioSEE, would ensure elementary students who fail vision screenings receive eye exams and glasses.

At Washington Local Schools, curriculum consultant Molly Chamberlin said the district uses a comprehensive phonics program for students from kindergarten through second grade.
