AKRON, Ohio-On the first full day of pre-kindergarten at Mason Community Learning Center, parents gathered to take photos and offer support to their young children. This year, Akron Public Schools has expanded its pre-K program, aiming to enhance classroom instruction and better prepare students for future academic challenges. Pre-kindergarten teacher SheRel Pringle emphasized the importance of developing social and emotional skills, such as managing behaviors and taking turns, through structured play rather than focusing solely on academic achievement. The program’s expansion is also benefiting families financially, as noted by parent Angela Bergmann.
