Columbus City Schools Considering Closing, Consolidating Certain Buildings due to Underutilization

COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Columbus City school district is considering changes due to shifts in enrollment and underutilization of buildings. Superintendent Dr. Angela Chapman emphasized the need to consolidate schools to improve learning environments and allocate resources more efficiently.

However, John Coneglio, president of the Columbus Education Association, opposes school closures, advocating for community engagement instead. He believes investing in understanding why families choose not to enroll in Columbus City schools is crucial. The district plans to gather feedback from the community before making a decision on possible school closures in June, following recommendations from the Community Facilities Task Force.
