COLUMBUS, Ohio-Franklin City Schools approved a realignment plan reducing the number of elementary schools from five to four due to the failure of an operating tax levy. Each school will now host specific grade levels, starting in August. The plan includes grade-level buildings to ensure evenly distributed class sizes and consistent curriculum.
The district aims to maintain open enrollment and receive additional funding by qualifying as a federal “Title” building. Temporary modular buildings serving grades 3-5 will remain until new elementary schools are built in the future. Cost savings of $2.25 million annually are expected through staff reductions and removal of modular buildings. The district is closing Anthony Wayne Elementary and plans to auction Pennyroyal school building and land.
