Hometown Hero Brings Students Together

SALEM, Ohio -Karlyn Lundquist, the counselor at Southeast Elementary School in Salem, initiated a project called Rock River where students painted rocks displayed outside the school. The idea, inspired by social media, aimed to create a vibrant and welcoming front entrance with painted rocks featuring cartoons and positive messages.

Supported by a mini-grant from the Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Service Board, the project involved students from fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. Lundquist’s goal was to foster positivity and creativity among students, with plans to expand the project further in the future, enhancing the school environment and promoting a sense of pride among the students.
