CINCINNATI, Ohio-Jana Ryce, the mother of a 2-year-old who sustained a gunshot wound last month, has been indicted on one count of endangering children with firearm specifications. Prosecutors allege that Ryce left an unsecured, loaded gun in the bedroom where her toddler accessed it, resulting in the child shooting himself in the leg.
The firearm, previously reported stolen, was provided to Ryce by her boyfriend. The child suffered serious physical harm, requiring surgery, and was hospitalized. If convicted, Ryce faces up to six years in prison and a fine of $10,000.
