Chaparral Parents Express Growing Frustration Over Truancy Issues

April 6th, 2024-KILLEEN, Ohio-Several parents in Killeen ISD have raised concerns about unexplained absences affecting their children’s attendance records, leading to truancy court summonses. Elizabeth Boothe and Gabryelle Daniels, among others, reported ongoing issues with their children being marked absent despite being present in school. Boothe’s children, particularly her special education student, faced numerous unexcused absences due to frequent schedule changes and administrative errors.

Despite efforts to resolve the issue with school staff, including the principal, Boothe’s concerns remained unresolved. Similarly, Daniels faced truancy issues with her special education students, prompting her to demand accountability from the school administration. Both parents highlighted the broader district-wide problem of inconsistent attendance policies and inadequate communication from school authorities. Despite assurances from KISD spokeswoman Karen Rudolph that the district is investigating the matter, affected parents continue to struggle to clear their children’s attendance records.
