BG Schools Reading Program a hit With Second Graders and High School Athletes

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-Bowling Green City Schools has launched a new initiative pairing young readers with high school athletes called the “2nd and 7” program. Originating in Columbus in 1999, it aims to promote reading by providing free books and positive role models to children in need.

The program fosters interactions where second graders engage with high school athletes, who read to them from “The Hog Mollies” book series. The initiative not only encourages reading but also instills values like respect, healthy choices, and teamwork. Teachers and administrators at Bowling Green highlighted the program’s success at a recent Board of Education meeting.
