Bowling Green Schools Receives $45,000 Grant to Build an Outdoor Classroom

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-Paula Williams, a teacher at Bowling Green City Schools, secured a $45,000 grant from Lubrizol to construct an outdoor classroom after noticing increased engagement from her 7th-grade science students when they went outside. Williams presented the benefits of outdoor learning to the school board and local businesses.

The outdoor classroom will feature picnic tables, storage boxes, display boards, raised garden beds, and playground mulch. Williams hopes it will not only enhance science lessons but also be utilized for math, reading, writing, and art. The project aims to engage students in hands-on, real-world learning experiences. Construction began in May, with the first official outdoor class scheduled for August 15, and the project is funded without cost to students or their families.
