The investigation that led Ohio prosecutors to charge Wade S. Christofferson with attempting to sexually exploit a child began about a month ago. Authorities say it started when a Utah father deciphered a secret code Christofferson had been using to communicate with his daughter.
Federal prosecutors allege that Christofferson had employed this coded language to hide sexually explicit requests in letters he sent to the young girl from Ohio for at least six months. According to prosecutors, the Utah father discovered the code on November 5 after overhearing a FaceTime call between his daughter and Christofferson and questioning them further.
