‘It’s Irritating’ Parents say Bus Route Cancellations at Northwest Local School District are Ongoing Problem

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio-Families in the Northwest Local School District faced another disruption as eight bus routes were canceled on Thursday due to staffing shortages. The district, which is struggling to find enough drivers, particularly substitutes, reported that this situation is common and ongoing. The hiring process for new drivers can take six to eight weeks, prompting the district to ramp up its advertising efforts to attract applicants. Spokesperson Lyndsey Creecy acknowledged the inconvenience these cancellations cause for families and emphasized their commitment to resolving the issue, noting that transportation supervisors are even driving buses when necessary. Many parents, like grandparent Lawanda Engleman, expressed frustration over last-minute notifications about canceled routes, which typically arrive around 5 a.m. The district continues to encourage understanding and support as they work to improve transportation services.
