Most districts reported success with some form of cell phone ban, aiming to optimize students’ education. Statistics showed widespread phone usage among students during school hours.
Educators discussed the benefits of limiting phone use, citing improved academic performance, reduced cyberbullying, and enhanced social skills. While most districts allow students to carry phones, they’re restricted from using them during the day. Diana Rigby from Dublin City School Board emphasized the importance of human interaction for students’ well-being and highlighted positive feedback from implementing a middle school phone ban. Jessica Whipkey expressed concerns about phone use affecting student focus.
