COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 34 into law, granting breastfeeding mothers the right to be excused from jury duty. The bill, introduced in 2023 by Roy Klopfenstein and Angela King, passed through legislative committees and the Senate with unanimous support.
The new law allows breastfeeding mothers with babies under one year old to be excused from jury duty upon providing a signed affidavit stating their situation. Other reasons for excusal include extreme hardship, familial emergencies, mental or physical incapacity, and age-related concerns.
