Parents don’t Need to be Geeks to Talk With Kids About Their ‘Digital Worlds’

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-Captain Scott Frank, a retired Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children investigator turned internet safety expert and empowerment speaker, engaged Bowling Green High School students in discussions about their “digital worlds” on Monday. Later that evening, parents were invited to learn about ensuring their children’s safety online, though fewer than 20 attended the session.

Despite the low turnout, Frank expressed enthusiasm that any parents showed up, emphasizing the importance of educating parents and empowering children regarding online safety. Through his Digital Empowerment Project, Frank aims to reach thousands of students, parents, and educators, acknowledging the desire among students for guidance and information about their digital lives. He cautioned that even tech-savvy parents may struggle to keep up with teenagers in the digital realm.
