A New High School in Solon? School Board Considers Renovating or Building New School

SOLON, Ohio-The Solon Board of Education is weighing options to either renovate Solon High School or build a new one, as presented by Mike Acomb, the district’s COO. Acomb recommends new construction, citing its lower estimated cost of $134 million compared to $161.3 million for renovation, which could rise to $180.9 million with additional features. He emphasized that new construction would take about four years, while renovation could take up to ten, causing significant disruption. Superintendent Fred Bolden supported the idea, noting that new facilities would better meet educational needs and modern standards. The proposed new school would be located on the site of the former Arthur Road Elementary. The board is also addressing capacity concerns at the district’s elementary schools, considering potential expansions in the future. Financing for either option would require a bond issue.
