April 16th, 2024-COVINGTON, Ohio-A former teacher from Holmes High School, Morgan Gilvin, is suing the Covington Board of Education, alleging that school leaders ignored her reports of disturbing behavior by a student involved in the killing of 14-year-old Amani Smith. Smith was shot to death on January 23, allegedly due to an ongoing issue involving his older brother and the suspect.
Gilvin claims she reported threats and scary behaviors by the student multiple times but received no action from school leadership. She believes Smith’s death could have been prevented.
Gilvin resigned due to emotional distress after the incident. The lawsuit names several school leaders, alleging negligence in addressing safety concerns. Gilvin seeks damages for a hostile work environment and claims the school failed to respond to her resignation. A 17-year-old boy is charged with Smith’s murder, and three others with complicity, all juveniles whose names haven’t been released.
