‘No Kid Sleeps on The Floor in Our Town’: Brook Park Volunteers Build Beds for Kids in Need

CLEVELAND, Ohio-‘Sleep in Heavenly Peace’ is a local organization addressing the issue of children in the Cleveland area lacking beds of their own. Volunteers gather monthly to build beds using donated tools and supplies. Susie Asadorian leads the Western Cuyahoga County chapter, aiming to alleviate the community’s need for beds.

The organization has nationwide reach, having provided over 140,000 beds since 2012. In the Cleveland area alone, nearly 2,300 kids don’t have beds. Last year, the group provided 240 beds locally. Families like the Wolschlegers express gratitude for the organization’s assistance, as they were previously sleeping on an air mattress due to financial constraints. Each bed costs $250, covering lumber, materials, mattress, and bedding. The organization’s 2024 goal is to provide 365 beds for local children, but they face challenges in securing volunteers, donations, and sponsors.
