SCIOTO, Ohio- Mackenzie Cornell, an 11-year-old, drowned while trying to save her sister at a birthday party at the Quality Inn. Her aunt, Helen Cornell, described Mackenzie’s act of bravery, stating that she sacrificed herself to save her sister.
A prayer vigil was held outside Bloom-Vernon Elementary School, where teachers and community members remembered Mackenzie as a kind, loving, and joyful individual. She was described as a “light in her community” whose brightness continues to shine through those who knew her.
