17-Year-Old Girl Convicted in Deadly Hit-and-Run Charged With Assaulting Cleveland Police Officer

CLEVELAND, Ohio-A Cleveland teenager involved in a fatal hit-and-run drag racing crash, which claimed the lives of a young couple, is back in the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center after being arrested for assaulting a police officer. The 17-year-old girl had previously received a sentence to time in a group home and probation for her involvement in the drag racing incident.

The victims’ parents believe that if she had faced a harsher punishment initially, this latest crime may have been prevented. Despite being on house arrest, she cut off her ankle monitor and went on the run. She pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and failure to stop after an accident. The teen also lost her driver’s license until she turns 21. The judge who sentenced her before has refused to comment on the case.
