CINCINNATI, Ohio-As the new school year begins at the University of Cincinnati, efforts to enhance pedestrian safety have been stepped up. The university, in collaboration with the city and a consultant, secured $510,223 in grants from the Ohio Department of Transportation. These funds are being used for rapid, cost-effective safety improvements. Over the summer, the city’s Department of Transportation and Engineering installed eight “quick curb extensions” at key intersections along Clifton Avenue, Jefferson Avenue, and Martin Luther King Drive. These extensions include plastic bollards designed to force cars to make wider turns, reducing blind spots and improving safety for pedestrians.
