Akron Public Schools Rejects Resolution Outlining how District Would Transport Homeless Students and Students with Special Needs

AKRON, Ohio-The Akron Board of Education has approved measures to transport approximately 1,200 homeless and special needs students for the upcoming school year, in compliance with legal requirements. However, the board rejected a resolution detailing the specific transportation plan. Brandy Vickers, representing over 140 Independent Contract Operators (ICOs) who transport special needs students, expressed approval that the board questioned the administration’s proposals regarding the use of independent contractors versus outside companies.
