Another Cleveland School Board Member Steps Down, the Fifth in the Last Year

CLEVELAND, Ohio-Robert Heard Sr., a longtime Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) board member, has resigned, marking the fifth resignation from the board in the past year. Heard, who served on the board since 2004 and was a former chair and president of the Ohio Association of School Boards, did not specify a reason for his departure. CMSD faces several challenges, including a budget deficit, declining enrollment, and the ongoing impacts of the pandemic on student performance and staff. The district has already implemented budget cuts and has a new operating levy on the November ballot.
