‘Appalled’: Columbus School Board Member Shares Why She Leaked Memo at Heart of Scandal

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Columbus City Schools board member Sarah Ingles admitted to sharing the leaked document with the Columbus Education Association (CEA), which has sparked controversy amid discussions about school closures. The document outlined a strategy for handling opposition to the closure plan.

While Board Member Brandon Simmons claimed collaboration in its creation, Ingles stated she was not present at any meeting where the document was shared and decided to share it after finding it offensive. CEA President John Coneglio commended Ingles for transparency and emphasized the importance of addressing such issues publicly. Ingles, a first-term board member, campaigned on rebuilding trust with the CEA. Meanwhile, the CEA pointed out what they deemed evidence of the board implementing parts of the leaked plan, including changes in meeting locations and agendas. Board President Christina Vera stated that Simmons acted independently, and the outlined strategies do not represent the perspectives of the entire board.
