CLEVELAND, Ohio-An arsonist set a fire inside Cleveland’s East Tech High School on Saturday morning, prompting firefighters to respond at 5:47 a.m. They discovered smoke in the gymnasium and extinguished fires on a padded wall and the hardwood floor. The incident is under investigation, with officials believing both fires were intentionally set. Councilman Richard Starr reported that a front window was broken to gain entry, and evidence such as a gas can left at the scene could help identify the suspect. The estimated damage is $20,000, and the school’s homecoming dance was relocated as a precaution. The school is expected to reopen on Monday, but the gym will remain secured during the investigation.
