ASHTABULA, Ohio-The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the drowning of an 18-month-old Amish girl in her family’s pond in Rome Township. The incident occurred on Thursday at the family’s property on Dodgeville Road, where the child was discovered by her mother after being missing for approximately 15 minutes. Despite lifesaving measures performed by first responders, the child died while being flown to an area hospital. Investigators found that the pond, although fenced, had an open gate. The investigation is ongoing.
