Award Winning Author Models Creative Skills for Students

TOLEDO, Ohio-Author and illustrator R. Gregory Christie engaged children at Rosa Parks Elementary School by reading from his book “Jazz Baby” and leading a drawing tutorial. He emphasized the importance of art as a counterbalance to technology, aiming to inspire children to follow their dreams. Christie’s visit was part of the 22nd annual Claire’s Day season, promoting reading and literacy.

The event offers awards to students for improved reading enthusiasm and competency. Christie’s presence was coordinated with Claire’s Day, which distributes books to children and hosts awards ceremonies. The event aims to encourage a love of reading, particularly among lower-income children. Christie emphasized the importance of supporting tangible items like books and libraries in the digital age.
