COLUMBUS, Ohio-Edward Gingerich was driving a horse-drawn carriage on County Road 5 in Marion County when he lost control and collided with an eastbound CSX locomotive around 4:40 p.m. Gingerich was thrown from the carriage and died at the scene.
The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Despite the presence of lights and gates at the railroad crossing, the collision occurred. One horse attached to the carriage sustained a leg injury but survived. CSX expressed condolences and pledged cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
