Buckeye Valley Schools Seek Voter Approval for $100M Bond Issue

TROY TOWNSHIP, Ohio-On the first day of early voting, Buckeye Valley School District is seeking voter approval for a significant bond issue to address growth challenges due to new housing developments. Superintendent Rick Stranges acknowledged that while the growth is positive for the community, it brings capacity issues, particularly as kindergarten and upper-grade classes are becoming larger. The district, which recently built a new elementary school, is now proposing a bond to raise over $100 million for a new high school. The bond would cost homeowners about $156 annually per $100,000 of property value, translating to approximately $750 to $800 per year for an average home valued at $500,000. While some residents express concerns about rising property taxes, others support the initiative, emphasizing the community’s responsibility to fund education.
