Child Flown to Hospital After Apartment Fire in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Ohio-A child was flown to the hospital after a fire broke out at the Oak Leaf Estates apartment building in New Castle on Saturday night. The fire started in a first-floor apartment around 9:30 p.m., where a woman and two children were present. The woman suffered smoke inhalation, and one child sustained serious burns. The child was airlifted to the hospital for treatment. All other residents safely evacuated, though many apartments suffered smoke and water damage. The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents. The fire, which spread from a bedroom to the second floor and roof, is under investigation by the state fire marshal.
