CLEVELAND, Ohio-A student from Cleveland John Hay High School has been named a 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholar, one of only 161 seniors across the nation to receive this prestigious honor for their achievements in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.
Chardon Javar Black Jr. from John Hay High School and Annabella Clara Burton Boone from Olentangy Berlin High School are the two winners from Ohio this year. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona congratulated the scholars, emphasizing their representation of the nation’s best and their potential to inspire hope for the future. Out of 3.7 million high school students, approximately 5,700 qualified as candidates for the award, with selection based on factors like ACT and SAT scores, as well as recommendations from school officials and organizations.
