Coventry Board Hears Details of new Program for Students

COVENTRY, Ohio-During the May 15 board meeting, the Coventry Local Schools Board of Education received a presentation from Shari Brustoski about the district’s new Student Assistance Program (SAP), aimed at promoting positive social, emotional, and behavioral functioning among students. The program has seen initial success, including the formation of Student Assistance Teams, substance prevention programs, and partnerships with community support organizations.

Goals for the program include focusing on wellness for both students and staff, expanding substance prevention programs, and providing mental health awareness training for staff. Superintendent George Fisk expressed gratitude to Banner Supply Co. and the Portage Lakes Career Center for their contributions to the district. The board also approved various contracts, agreements, and the five-year forecast, which projects a positive balance for the district until the expiration of an emergency levy in 2025, prompting the need for further financial planning. The board will reconvene on June 19 for their next meeting.
