EAST KNOX, Ohio-A second-grader at East Knox Local Schools wore a gray dress with black cats to school, which initially caused little reaction among students. However, at a subsequent school board meeting in December, discussions arose about the appropriateness of boys wearing dresses, spurred by comments from board member Matt Schwartz referencing religious beliefs. This sparked controversy, prompting the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) to send a letter to the school board urging them to cease religious expressions at meetings. The child’s parents, concerned about their son’s treatment, reached out to FFRF to protect both their child and others from potential backlash over parenting decisions.
