Elementary Kids Spend Day with Local Firefighters

BROOKFIELD, Ohio-Brookfield firefighters hosted their first Junior Academy over the weekend, engaging twenty elementary school kids from Brookfield and Hartford in fire safety and career exploration. The event, initiated by Captain Derrick Hollander, began with a swearing-in ceremony followed by lessons on fire safety, including a simulated fire experience in a smoke-filled trailer. Children participated in hands-on activities such as practicing fire extinguishment, using real hoses, and engaging in an obstacle course and car extraction demonstration. Chief David Masirovits emphasized the event’s educational value and its potential to spark interest in firefighting careers amid a shortage of public service workers.
