COLUMBUS, Ohio-Eleven Columbus City Schools have been honored with the prestigious Momentum Award by the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce for their exceptional progress and student growth as demonstrated in the latest Ohio State Report Card. These schools, including Binns Elementary, Cedarwood Alternative Elementary, Columbus Africentric Early College Elementary, Como Elementary, Huy/A.G. Bell Elementary, Indian Springs Elementary, Northgate Elementary, South Mifflin STEM Academy (K-8), Valleyview Elementary, Westgate Elementary, and Woodward Park Middle School, are among the 310 statewide recipients, with 38 in Franklin County.
The Momentum Award recognizes districts and school buildings that have surpassed expectations by showing outstanding achievement improvement while maintaining student growth throughout the year. Columbus City Schools Superintendent/CEO Dr. Angela Chapman expressed pride in the recognition, emphasizing the commitment to continuous improvement and excellence among the academic community.
The award criteria include improving performance index by three or more points from the previous report card year and achieving a value-added progress rating of 4 or more stars. Dr. Corey D. Grubbs, Columbus City Schools Chief of Transformation and Leadership, highlighted the achievement as tangible evidence of efforts to enhance school standards and the collective commitment to excellence by students, faculty, administrators, and families.
