CLEVELAND, Ohio-Daniel Martin Jr., a fifth-grade student at Huy Elementary School, recently placed second in the 4-5 Reserved category at the 2024 Ohio Elementary Chess Championship in Cleveland. Starting his chess journey in third grade, Martin’s dedication and passion for the game led to this impressive achievement.
Under the guidance of his chess teacher, Sean Gill, Martin honed his skills by practicing daily and participating in chess clubs. His openness to learning and strategic approach to the game contributed to his success. With over 70 students participating in the chess club at Huy, Martin’s accomplishment highlights his hard work, determination, and love for chess.
