Former Staff Members of Northeast Columbus Charter School Claim Kids were Locked in Classrooms

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Two former staff members from Cornerstone Academy in Columbus have revealed that students were being locked in classrooms using devices called “Nightlocks.” These devices, intended for securing rooms from intruders, were sometimes used to prevent students from leaving classrooms, especially those engaging in “eloping” behavior. The staff members, who chose to remain anonymous due to fear of retaliation, were instructed by a veteran teacher to use the Nightlocks. One staff member raised concerns about the safety risks, and after the issue was brought to the attention of the administration, the practice was halted. Cornerstone Academy’s administration launched an investigation, addressed the issue with the teachers involved, and issued a communication to all staff emphasizing clear expectations and upcoming training. The school reiterated its commitment to safety and transparency.
